Leaving on a Jet Plane
We're off to NZ tomorrow, so just wanted to say that there probably won't be many updates for a while (not that there have been recently anyway).
Alex has had a cold, so I'm hoping that his ears will be ok on the plane. Not much we can do now unfortunately!!
We had his last shots (until 11 months) yesterday and another weigh-in. He's now a whopping 7.525kg.
Merry Christmas to you all and see you in the New Year

Three Months Old
Alex is now three months old. We can't believe it! We had champagne and lamb for dinner to celebrate!!
In the last month Alex seems to have developed so much more personality. He's a real nosey parker and always wants to be watching (or preferably be part of) the action! He's discovered his hands and is often chewing and sucking on his fingers - he seems to favour his index finger over his thumb. He's also now managing to consistently get toys into his mouth so he can have a suck.
We've had a bit of hit and miss on the sleeping front. A few nights in the row of 7 hours, and then back to waking every 3 or 4. We hope it's just a growth spurt.
Best of all, he is so strong that he can actually sit up by himself now. It only lasts a few seconds before he loses his balance, but WOW!

Our Holiday in Prague
So we had a fantastic time in Prague. The reason for the trip was my cousin Kate's wedding to Corin. He proposed to her on the 10th Anniversary of their first date, and they got married just a few months later.
We had a fantastic time. It was a small wedding which was really nice because except for Corin's family who we met for the first time, we knew everyone there. I think that everyone would agree that Alex was a fantastic baby. He slept through the ceremony (hail the sling) and had a great time at the reception. He had cuddles with almost everyone and loved dancing with Dad. We had an early night because we'd arrived late the night before, but were thrilled at how much we enjoyed it.
The next day we went for a big walk. We walked across the Charles Bridge, along the river and up the cable car, through the park on the hill and then down the hill through the Castle. It was a funny day. We had some rain and even some hail, but fortunately it seemed to come in waves so we didn't get soaked. Alex slept the whole way, then we went back to the hotel, he had a feed and I left him with Dad so that I could go out and explore the shops. We then met up with everyone for dinner - once again Alex was a star.
It was really wet on our last day so we stayed in the hotel until it was time to checkout. We walked to the Mucha museum and saw some great Art Nouveau art, then found a restaurant for lunch. We walked around town and I did more shopping, then we headed back to the hotel, fed Alex and hung out until our taxi came. It was a long trip home (what with delays and travelling with a baby) but we survived. Alex had a little cry on the plane as we started to descend, but he fed and that seemed to help.
The best part of the trip was that Alex slept for 7 hours every night. Wish he would do that at home!!

Consultatie Bureau Visit
Today we went to the Consultatie Bureau for Alex's 2nd Hepatitis B injection. It was three weeks since his last visit and we were amazed to discover that he has put on 1kg since then. He now weighs 6.785 kg (it was 5.755 last time). His head circumference has grown by 1cm and he's now 62 cm long. My baby is growing up fast!

Sleeping through the night
Last night Alex had his last feed at 9.30pm, and was asleep half an hour later. Mum woke up at 3.30am and had to go into his room to check on him because he hadn't woken up yet. He was fine, so Mum went back to bed and Alex slept until 5am. The best news is that it was really 6am (because Daylight Saving ended last night). That's 8 hours without a feed!! When he did wake up, he ate, had a little play, ate again and then slept for another 1.5 hours. Mum has had so much sleep she doesn't know what to do with herself.
Fingers crossed it lasts.

Goodbye Nana
It was Nana's last night so we all went out for dinner which we realised was Alex's first official meal out. We went to Scallywag's and as always really enjoyed it. Not only was the food great, but they really looked after us - Mum got a special chair which was good for breastfeeding, and they made a huge fuss of Alex. He was really good though, sat with Dad for the soup and salad, then had a feed and slept while Mum was eating her main.

Two Months Old
This month Alex has become really interactive. He reacts to us now, smiling heaps, has mastered sitting up and rolling and has started to be awake a lot more during the day. This of course is good, but it's a lot harder to keep him entertained and happy. His activity gym works for a while, but he's so interested in everything that's going on, that it doesn't take long for him to get bored. Of course we have to compare him to the other babies we know (at Bumps and Babies a playgroup that we go to) and he seems much more alert and into things that they are. Of course we're rather biased!!
Depending on when he goes to bed, he usually sleeps for 4 hours so wakes about 2am. We have noticed that he is a lot faster at eating now, so it's now usually only about an hour before Mum can put him down and go back to sleep. Of course, this is still not ideal, but somehow, only having to wake up once is a lot better.

Second Consultatie Bureau Visit
This morning we went to the Consultatie Bureau for the second time. Duncan and Nana both came along as well, so got to see what goes on.
We were very excited about having Alex weighed again, because Nana thinks that he's grown heaps since she first arrived so we were disappointed to find out that he now weighs 5755 grams. That's a gain of 330g which is perfectly acceptable, just not as much as we thought it would be. His head is 2cm larger though (40cm), they didn't measure how long he was.
The main reason for the visit, and the worst part was that he had to have more vaccinations. Today he had two, one in each leg, and he really hated them. He was really upset (which of course upset Mum, Dad and Nana) and even cuddles from Mum and Dad didn't really help. We got him dressed and into the sling, and it wasn't until we were quite a way down the road that he started to settle.
Once we were home, he seemed to settle down, but then, all afternoon, he would cry inconsolably. Eventually he would fall asleep because he was worn out from crying, but then, it would all start again. Poor wee man!!
