On Wednesday 7th May, we flew from Amsterdam to Cork. We picked up a rental car and after some baby clothes shopping at "NEXT", we drove to Killarney and checked into our fabulous B&B. The weather was fantastic, so we took advantage and went for a "jaunt" around the National Park in a horse and cart. Alex seemed to love the ride, and we found the scenery stunning. When we got back, Alex had a play in the sun with a gym provided by the B&B. Spoilt!

The next day we had a fantastic cooked breakfast and then headed off to drive the "Ring of Kerry". We stopped off on Valencia Island and did some exploring and saw the "Skellig Experience". I would love to go back and see the islands for real some day. I think Duncan would like to dive off them. We had a quick stop to buy some chocolates but then because it was raining, we pretty much just drove back to the B&B.

Friday 9th May - the day of the wedding. We got up and had a relatively relaxing morning, then drove to the wedding location (Mallow). The bride was beautiful and Alex did really well during the service ... especially because it was a Catholic Mass so rather long. After the wedding it was back in the car and back to the B&B to hang out before the reception. When it was time, we walked to the hotel where the reception was being held. Alex was a bit painful during dinner (because of teething), but we got through it. As soon as I'd had my dessert I took Alex back to the B&B, fed him, put him to sleep and left him in the capable hands of the B&B owners daughter. I got back to the reception having missed the speeches, but just in time for the dancing. Duncan and I had fun, but were both pretty tired, so left the party early. We were worried about Alex because he'd been a bit feverish, but he did fine.

Liz and Paul arranged a trip the day after the wedding. We thought it was just going to be a boat trip on the lake, but it was so much more. We took a boat through the three lakes, had lunch and then into jaunting carts over the "Gap of Dunloe". Instead of the carts, Duncan was able to ride a horse, he really enjoyed himself. We were so lucky with the weather, because we weren't prepared for such a long day out, it was close to 5pm by the time we got home. Alex was tired and grumpy again so Duncan went to the supermarket and we had a picnic in our room.

Sunday was our last day. We drove back to Cork via the coast (scenic) route and got to the airport with some time to spare. Dropped the car off, checked in and hung out until it was time to board.
All in all it was a fantastic trip. The B&B people really looked after us, and we enjoyed the scenery. Duncan wants to go back and do some tramping.
